ACCIDENT ENDS RACE EARLY FOR EXCEDRIN QUICKTABS RACING TEAM IN DOVER

DOVER, Del. (September 23, 2002) -The NASCAR Busch Series traveled to Dover (Del.) International Raceway this past weekend for the running of the MBNA All American Heroes 200 on Saturday afternoon.  An early-race accident cut the event short for Todd Bodine and the Excedrin QuickTabs Racing team.

Bodine qualified the No. 92 Excedrin QuickTabs Chevrolet in 24th spot on Friday afternoon after posting a speed of 124.064 miles per hour around the 1.0-mile concrete oval.  Upon the start of the event on Saturday, Bodine was able to pick up six spots on the first lap to advance to 18th place.  Unfortunately, while Bodine was racing with the No. 27 car on lap three, driver Jamie McMurray made contact with Bodine, who spun and hit the outside retaining wall.  Bodine drove the injured Excedrin QuickTabs Chevrolet to the attention of the crew in the garage where it was determined that the damage was too extensive to repair safely.  Bodine was credited with 43rd place.

"That's just racing," said Bodine following the incident.  "Jamie pushed and got into me and turned me sideways.  I know he didn't mean it, he's not that kind of driver at all.  This place is really slick.  The way these tires are, we have to start them low in air pressure and let them build up.  I'm sure his pressures hadn't built up, I know mine hadn't.  He just pushed up and into me."

Next up on the Busch Series schedule is the race at Kansas Speedway, scheduled for Saturday, September 28.  Qualifying for the Mr. Goodcents 300 will take place on Friday afternoon and the event will be broadcast live on TNT television and MRN radio live beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET.  Herzog Jackson Motorsports co-owner Reggie Jackson will serve as Grand Marshal for the event.
